Brenda Shrewsbury Rainey, 79, of Barboursville, West Virginia, passed away on June 13, 2025. She was born on October 28, 1945, in Matoaka, West Virginia, to the late Elmer and Opal Lusk Shrewsbury.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gene Rainey and their beloved daughter, Melinda Stephens, whose memory she carried in her heart every day. Also preceded in death, her sister, Barbara Shrewsbury Davidson.
Brenda dedicated many years of service to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Services before retiring. Known affectionately as "Nanna" by her family, she was a loving grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend whose warmth, kindness, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her granddaughter, Casey O’Bryan and her husband Jakob; her grandson, Caden Stephens; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Jessa and Carter O’Bryan, all of Barboursville She is also survived by her nieces, Regina Davidson Atkins and her husband Steve of Buckhannon, WV, and Susan Davidson of Christiansburg, VA; her great-nephew, Matt Atkins of Austin, TX; and her brother-in-law, Bill Davidson of Beckley, WV and her cat Stormy.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Barboursville Park at a later date (to be determined). Wallace Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the family with arrangements.
