1932 - 2025

Thelma Lewis-MartinThelma “Juanita” Lewis-Martin, 92, of Culloden, WV, affectionately known as “Granny,” passed away at home on August 18, 2025. Born December 9, 1932, to the late James and Ruby Pack Lewis, she was their only daughter among seven sons, with whom she would challenge to a race, ballgame, or competition. A devoted mother, she raised her children with the support of her family, and later became a proud grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.

Granny attended Marshall College and worked as an accountant at GMAC for 35 years. She faithfully served her church, Washington Avenue Church of God Holiness, for more than 75 years. She was a previous member of Eastern Star where she enjoyed serving pumpkin pie at the WV Pumpkin Festival dressed as a pumpkin herself. She loved traveling, bargain shopping, and spoiling her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Carl, Ross, Roy, Chilton, and Raymond, and sisters-in-law Ruby, Wanda Lee, Fran, Anna, and Leoma. She is survived by her daughter Wanda Smith (Eddie) and son Steve Martin (Sonya); grandchildren Misty Smith-O’Dell (Chris), Lisa Smith, Sheri Martin, and Stacey Wickersham (Steve); great-grandchildren Samuel Smith-O’Dell (Sidney Sheets), Isaac Smith (Emily), Samantha McClennen (Tim), Gavin Winter, Cambreigh Winter, Jayna Smith-O’Dell, Maddox Winter, and Jett Smith-O’Dell; great-great-granddaughter Clementine O’Dell (Granny’s morning entertainment); brothers Jack Lewis (Joyce) and Fred Lewis (Marietta Grass); and many nieces and nephews.

She will be remembered for her deep faith, generosity, and her fierce determination. Always ready to help, to lend a listening ear, and to pray, Granny lived a life of love and service to her family and to her Lord.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Wallace Funeral Home, Milton. Burial will follow at Forest Memorial Park. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Online condolences may be shared at www.timeformemory.com/wallace.

She was my 2nd mom. My mom would say I'm your mom. I'd say well Juanita was good to me. She always took time for us. On Sundays after church I'd go with Wanda to her house and Mrs. Lewis had lunch and afterwards Juanita would rest then take us for a Sunday drive and always stuff and get us an ice cream cone before we went back to church. Plus when I had kids and I always took them to Juanita's for truck or treat she always had me a big candy bar. I'll never forget her friendship. She was one in a million.
