Edna Pearl Maynard, 72, of Salt Rock, West Virginia, passed from this life into the next one on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, with her family by her side at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. She was born November 24, 1953, in Logan, West Virginia to the late John and Lillian Kinser. Edna was preceded in death by her brother George Vance, sisters Martha Frye and Rose Ferrell and her daughter Kelly Maynard. Left to hold her memory are her husband Kenneth Maynard, her daughter Nicola “Nicki” May (Chris), sons Kevin Maynard (Amy), Seth Maynard, grandchildren, Samantha, Aiden, Bralynn, Dravyn, Holdyn, her brother Edison Vance (Linda), sister Alice Frye and many special nephews and nieces.
To say having Edna in your life was a joy is an understatement. She gave far more than she received, always providing an ear to listen and a shoulder to cry on. Her love for her family was evident in every meal she prepared and every pie or cake she made from scratch. She not only enjoyed cooking but received a bigger thrill knowing that others enjoyed what she prepared.
Before her eyesight became to depleted, you could find her in the kitchen or in her “off limits” sewing room making something beautiful for one of her great nieces or grandchildren. Edna’s cooking was only overshadowed by her ability to make gorgeous dresses and other items of clothing.
When she wasn’t cooking or sewing, you would often find her reading one of the many books that she so meticulously picked out from thrift bookstores. Her imagination gave her the ability to step inside one of them and allowed her to travel to many different times and places without ever leaving her living room. Edna was intelligent, talented, and a free thinker. She returned the love she was given to those closest to her. She will be sorely missed by all of us that loved her.
The family would like to thank LCOC and Hospice of Huntington for their care and attention over the past months.
Visitation with Edna will be on Sunday, May 31, 2026 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wallace Funeral Home in Barboursville, West Virginia. A funeral service will be held the following day on Monday, June 1, 2026 at 12 p.m. at Wallace Funeral Home in Barboursville. Burial will follow at Baylous Cemetery in Salt Rock, West Virginia.
