Carey Frances Sistrunk Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1925 - 2009

Carey Frances Caraway Sistrunk, 83,died Friday, January 23, 2009.

She was born on February 22, 1925 in Silsbee, Texas to the late Oliver and Docia Caraway.

Frances is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Jesse Lee Sistrunk; daughter Ann Sistrunk Bray of Garland, Texas and Anns sons John and Matthew Bray; son Thomas Lynn Sistrunk and his wife Retha of Germantown, TN and their children, Kelly and Blake Sistrunk; her brother, the Honorable Billy Caraway and sister Wanda Caraway Sarver.

She is preceded in death by an infant daughter Barbara Jean; stepmother Elsie Jeffcoat Caraway and sister June Caraway Templeton and numerous other aunts and uncles.

Her son, Tom, once described her as a "tough ole bird" due to her determination and willpower to persevere through many difficult times. The name stuck as she repeatedly came through time after time for her family. Putting her family first, Frances spent many hours supporting Little League, acting as a room mother and as a den leader. She also gave back to her community through work as a hospital volunteer. She was a woman of few words, but when she spoke, people took notice. She didn't have a pretentious bone in her body, which made everything she did even more genuine.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at Farmer Funeral Home, 415 N. 4th Street, Silsbee, TX. 77656&Phone (409) 385-2828

The Sistrunk family would like to extend their heart-felt thanks to the many friends and extended family that have extended their thoughts and prayers throughout these last few difficult months.

My deepest condolence to the family for their loss. Frances (Mimi) was always kind and loving especially to John and Matt. She was the very best at holiday meals and I will never forget her seafood gumbo, crunchy fried cornbread, turnip greens, and chicken & dumplings. I pray for her often and know she is in Heaven. May God bless her soul and may she always rest in peace.

Just a note about my friend Frances. Among her good qualities was that she was a terrific hostess. Always making one feel welcome and showing no signs of "wear and tear", regarding preparation of food, sleeping accomodations, etc. just as relaxed as she could be, therefore relaxing me too. And she was a good cook, I never could duplicate her fried corn bread, so after I tried her recipe a couple of times and failing to meet her standard, I just decided I would eat her fried corn bread, and forget trying to duplicate hers. I suppose what I loved and admired most about her was that she was what I call "True Blue, what you saw was what you got with her. I always enjoyed her company and will miss her very much, as I know many others will also. My love to all her family, may you find peace in knowing that she is at peace. Sincerely, Betty Downs
