Marjorie and family:
I just am sitting here remembering all the times I have enjoyed with Uncle Sylvan. I remember all the summers all the Troy clan hit the Rouths and how Uncle Sylvan would take us to help with the cows, carry us to softball games and take us all over the farm. What good memories those are. I remember him trying to get Donna and I to eat some potato candy we botched up one time.....(and we had made so much, we had to eat most of it!). I also remember helping him look for cows that have stayed out in the pasture and dropped some twin calves and seeing the true remorse and sadness on his face when two perfect calves had died. Such a dear memory. He also made sure that everytime one of us Troys saw him or talked with him that "we remember our home in North Carolina" and try to get up there more. I also remember him helping drive Mom and all us Troys across the states when Dad had gotten assigned to the base in North Dakota. He is so much more than all those memories, though. He was such a good man, so smart, so kind and so funny at times. He will be missed. Take care all of you.

We are sorry to hear of Mr. Routh's passing. He was a fine man and did a lot for the Grays
Chapel School & community. He was
a fine example to our children, Andy & Amy. Your family is in our thoughts & prayers.

I am so sorry to hear about Sylvan's death.
I knew him as a fellow teacher during the three years I taught at Grays Chapel, and I taught Bill and Donna. I remember Dan, but I don't think he was in high school while I was there.

I am a former student of Grays Chapel School and am honored to say that Mr. Routh taught my Science class when I was in the 7th grade at Chapel. I have very fond memories of him and the way that the always 'controlled' his class. He was a wonderful Science teacher and always made whatever the subject was at the time, interesting. I do believe that he was part of the reason why I loved Science so well. I am very sorry for your loss. I know you, the family will miss him greatly and so will the community as a whole. I have not seen Mr. Sylvan Routh in many years, but will always cherish his influence on my life. Take comfort in knowing that he is in a much better place. You all, will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Mr. Routh was my principal at Grays Chapel School and he was someone I admired tremendously when I was growing up. My deepest sympathies to the Routh family, he will be greatly missed.
