Flora Richardson Wilhite 82 of Rayburn Country died Sunday April 28, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, TX. Memorial services will be held Saturday May 18, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in Rayburn Country at the Lake Rayburn United Methodist Church located at 349 FM 1007 Sam Rayburn, TX. Survivors include brothers Murray and wife Ethel Richardson of Rayburn Country, TX. Stephen Montgomery and wife Laurie Richardson of New Jersey. nephew Simeon Richardson and nieces Claire Richardson, Lesley Reisdorf and husband Clyde their children Andrew and Austin also Lauren and husband Billy Pate their children Katherine, Blakely and Kyle, brother in law Roy and wife Kay Herrmann, nephewsMark and Peter Herrmann. Flora loved to read books and to explore nature from her childhood days to the present. She joined the campfire girls organization where lifelong friendships were made. These she valued above all other interests. Love of reading led her to pursue a degree in Library Science from the University of North Texas at Denton, she graduated at the top of her class (Summa Cum Laude). Work life began with a job as Engineering Librarian at Lamar University. Flora then joined the U.S. Special Services where she operated libraries in Manheim, Heidelberg and Berlin Germany. Upon returning to "The States" she became head librarian for the city of Orange, TX. Her last and longest move was to Baytown, TX. where she served as Director of Sterling Municiple Library for 35 years. During this period she was recognized for contributions to public libraries and community services. Flora was honored as Rotarian of the year - 1995, Library Director of the year- 1997 and Exxon USA's Refiner of the year-1997. Flora served on the Board of Directors for The Rotary Club of Baytown, The United Way of Baytown, The Baytown Medical Center and the Baytown Chamber of Commerce. After retiring, Flora became a member of the Lake Rayburn United Methodist Church. She enjoyed serving on multiple church committees. She was a member of the Rayburn Book Club, the Rayburn Country Club Ladies Auxillary and the Rayburn Country Garden Club. She was honored by the establishment of a scholarship fund in her name at the University of North Texas. Memorials may be given to the Lake Rayburn United Methodist Church P.O.
