1941 - 2006

Greta Loreda Turner was born July 4, 1941 in Holden, West Virginia, the third child born to the late Anna Mae Turner. She received early education in the public schools of Logan County and religious training at the Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church were she accepted Christ at an early age. She was a graduate of Arocoma High School. Later moving to Huntington she continued her education at Ashland Business College. She was formerly employed by Cabell-Huntington Hospital and was a Legal Aid Assistant with Southwestern Community Services. Needing a church home she joined Fellowship Baptist Church, later merging with Mt. Zion Baptist Church were she served on numerous auxiliary’s, Superintendent of the Sunday School and secretary of Mt. Olivet Congress of Christian Education #2. She was also a member of the Davis Singers. Following the disbandment of Mt. Zion, Greta united with the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church were she continued her Christian walk as a member of the Sunday School, Mission, Women’s Auxiliary, Mass Choir, and Wednesday Night Bible Study Group. At 9:15PM on Friday, February 24, 2006 Greta was called to join her mother Anna Mae Turner, Brother Thomas Turner and son Terry Lewis Turner who preceded her in death. She leaves to celebrate her home going: Two daughters, Glynis (Rodney) Cochran of Columbus, OH and Kenya Turner of Huntington, WV. Siblings; Mae of Columbus, OH, Mary of Detroit, MI, Donnetta (Leonard) of Charlotte, NC, Joyce, Doretha, Angleia, Gary (Elaine) and Kermit all of Huntington, WV. Grandchildren; DeAndre, Rickelle, DeMadre, Shanna, Joshua, and Quincy. Special cousins; Harold “Gigi” and Frederick “Bunny”. A host of special nieces, nephews, cousin’s aunts and uncles, other relatives and friends. The home going celebration will be 12:00 noon Friday, March 3, at the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church, with Pastor Roy E. Terry, officiating. Burial will follow in Woodmere Memorial Park. Friends amy call from 10:am untill the time of the service at the church.
