Vernon C. Gore was born January 20, 1920 in Silsbee, Texas to W. K. “Bill” and Ada Gore and passed from this life into the Lord’s arms on April 8, 2006 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease and Asbestosis.
Vernon was retired from the Pipe Fitters Local 195 and was a World War II veteran in the Air Force. He was an avid bird hunter in his younger days and loved his farm and ranching where he maintained his cattle herd and hay bailing until last year. He enjoyed quality time with his wife of 64 years, his 3 daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters, brother, many nephews, nieces, and friends. Vernon will always be remembered in his coveralls and hat as a hardworking, caring, loving Husband and Father, known to some as “Cott” and others as “Shot”. Daddy was a mild, quiet and loving man – but could always be counted on for solid advice and humor. He was also acknowledged as the “hometown hero” for saving the life of an electrocuted man and received letters by President Clinton and Vice President Gore for his bravery.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, brother Marvin Gore, and sister Lorraine Paine.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Doma Faye Gore; daughters Lynda Vern Gore of Beaumont, Rita Faye Smith and Janelle (Jan) Buckner and husband James (Tree) of Silsbee; grandchildren Stacy Williams and husband Prentice (J.J.) of Evadale, Nichole (Kinki) Smith, Dusty Smith, Chelsye Buckner of Silsbee and Tiffany Smith of Buna; great grandchildren Payton, Madison and Gavin Tucker Smith and Tori Theriot of Buna; sisters Eloise (Baby Doll) Bean, Doris Jeffcoat, Maxine Gilmore and brother Marshall D. Gore, all of Silsbee; nephews Billy Paine of Silsbee, Larry Dale Paine and Harold Bean of Lumberton, Dwight Gore of Fred, Kyle Gore of Silsbee and John Dudley Callaway of Fred; nieces Joan (Joanie) Smart of Silsbee, Sandra Bean of Temple, Jane Wadley of Longview, Lynessa Heiselbetz and JoAnn Callaway of Fred and Kim and Melanie Gore of Silsbee; numerous relatives, friends, acquaintances, and extended family. Vernon also leaves two great companions, his dogs, Suzy and Pudgy. We all will be totally lost without his direction, compassion and never ending love.
We wish to acknowledge and thank the long time care by Brenda Bolar, Texas Total Care staff and Doctors Punay and Colgan.
