Funeral services for Beatrice Taylor Simmons, 83, of Austin, formerly of Silsbee, will be 2:00 pm Saturday at Farmer Funeral Home with interment following in R. S. Farmer Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm Friday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Simmons passed away July 4, 2006 at Grace House of Lake Travis.
Beatrice was born July 5, 1922 in Goodlett, Texas to General Forrest and Kennie L'Donnie Taylor. She graduated early from Littlefield High School and after WWII, attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock where she graduated with a degree in Home Economics. Beatrice also received her teaching certificate in order to begin her career in education in Florida. She continued her teaching career in Orange, Texas. Upon moving to Silsbee, she began her affiliation with Kirby Elementary School, which lasted 22 years. Bea was involved in the Texas State Teachers Association and the Kirby Elementary PTA. Bea was an avid reader, worker of crossword puzzles and cared deeply for her three daughters.
Survivors include daughters, Roxanne Weaver and husband Lawrence of Winnsboro, TX Debra Simmons of Webster, TX and Kim Graham and husband Greg of Austin, TX; grandsons Ross and Ryan Graham of Austin; sister Iris Harlin of Sudan, TX and brother Waymon Taylor of McLean, VA.
Pallbearers will be Lawrence Weaver, Greg Graham, Ross Graham and Cesar Dominguez.
Donations made be made in Bea’s memory to Kirby Elementary School
