Beverly, our paths crossed those many years ago for the very first time when we were anxiously sitting in the waiting room of Dr. Eugene Lindsey’s office. Striking up a conversation, you were waiting for Kim to be born and me waiting for Carrie to make her entrance. Was that 37 years ago? From that day forward, our paths continued to intersect with day care, to elementary school, to our girls’ graduation. Our family ties have entwined all these years and what an honor it has been. Bert will be remembered as a kind, gentle, and loving family man. Beverly, we are keeping you and the family in our daily prayers asking our Good Lord to comfort and cradle you in His loving arms during this time.

I just wanted all of you to know that I've been praying to the lord for some form of healing to enter your hearts and souls. I'm not sure what happened to Bert, but Danny told me that he didn't think it was just from drowning. I can't even imagine how much heartache this has brought to your lives. Beverly, I just wanted you to know that the years I was able to be around the Callaways was some of the best years of my life. I'll never forget the trips that Bert allowed me to go fishing with him and Chris and I'll never forget his grin. Thank you once again for all of the love & food that ya'll shared with me. I know there's nothing I can say that'll ease the pain, I just wanted ya'll to know that I'm thinking about you and you're in my prayers. My Condolences Sincerely, Joe Murphy

I'm sorry for your loss. Seems like I spoke to Bert about two months ago while he was walking out the Sycamore Street gate. I was more friends with Ronnie at work, over at the B&P. I hope the family is doing OK. I will be unable to attend the visitation this evening. - danny

Words can never adequately describe the loss of a loved one, especially when it is sudden and tragic. My deepest feelings and prayers go out to you Beverly, and to you, Chris and Kim and the rest of the family. Bert had more friends than most of us because he was friendly, helpful, and honest. He was always willing to help anyone, anytime. Whenever anyone at ExxonMobile, where Bert and I worked, was about to purchase a new vehicle, a travel trailer, a TV, or anything, and we wanted to know what was the best, we would say, "ask Bert, he researches everything." He would come into work the next day with data printed off his computer with all the information neatly stapled together and pertinent information highlighted. Then, if you wished, he would have a discussion with you about the item. That's Bert! I met Bert in 1981 and we were close friends for 25 years. We both lived in Silsbee and car pooled together many times throughout the years. He always brought my wife and I his homegrown tomatoes and green beans and I would bring him real maple syrup and Canadian cheese when I traveled back home in Yankeeland. Whenever he called me Yankee I quickly reminded him that his mother was a yankee. There are many stories to tell about Bert Callaway. Everyone that knew Bert has got a story about him, but the best story about Bert is that he was an honest and helpful guy. I know, because I was his good friend for 25 five years. So long Buddy, see ya soon. Thomas Rowley Silsbee, Texas
