Mrs. Richardson slipped into eternity October 11, 2006 in Hemphill Care Center, Hemphill, Texas, after a six year battle with Alzheimer’s. Born to share cropper parents in the south end of Beaumont on September 21, 1917, she was the oldest daughter with eight siblings, who all preceded her in death. Margaret attended South Park High School the last year that there were only eleven grades to attend. Her love of sewing touched many lives, either with the quilts she made for them or the clothes she fashioned out of her favorite feed sacks. During the war, she was employed at the old Beaumont Sewing Room, making khaki pants and shirts for soldiers.
On April 10, 1938, Margaret married Mack S. Richardson, Sr., having three children and making their home in the north end of Beaumont until his death in 1980, after 42 years of marriage. Margaret became a Charter member of Pine Burr Baptist Church and served as WMU Director for over 15 years. During this time, she was employed at the Beaumont Neurological Center as admitting clerk and retired at the age of 68, but continued working until she was 71.
Moving to Buna in 1985, Margaret became a member of First Baptist Church and lived for the nights she played “42” with all her friends. Also during this time, she took up bowling and loved to go to tournaments around the country, traveling and meeting new people.
Survivors are Harold Richardson and wife Roxanna of Beaumont, Gloria Wood and husband Jimmy Wood of Milam, Mack Richardson III of Dallas, Monty LaPierre and husband Richard of San Antonio, seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, three great, great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews and her special friend, Helen Reisweig. Truly, she will be missed, but not forgotten.
