Bessie Mae McCoy Brown, of Evadale, passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at Silsbee Oaks Health Care, where she had resided since July 25, 2000.
She was born in Huttig, Arkansas to Lee Dawson McCoy and Ida Bell Arnold McCoy, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her husband, Oscar Raymond Brown and an only brother, Goel McCoy.
Bessie Mae was a retired elementary educator. She was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State. She received her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Houston. Bessie Mae began her teaching career in Livingston, Texas and later taught in Marshall, New Willard, Elwood, Silsbee, Evadale and Avery Elementary in Beaumont. She dearly loved children and her fondest memories were moments shared with some of her students.
Bessie Mae is survived by a nephew, Charles McCoy and his wife, Barbara, of Fort Worth; two great nieces and one great nephew.
She was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church of Silsbee and a fifty year member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, January 27, 2007 at Farmer Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Cemetery in Vidor. Visitation will be held Saturday from 12:00 pm until time of service at 2:00 pm.
