Lillian Opal Karr Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1918 - 2007

Lillian Opal Karr, born October 17, 1918 in Loeb, Texas, departed this life February 21, 2007 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, Texas at age 88.

Lillian, known to all as ‘Cricket’, was the last survivor of the Will and Ruth Tanner family, long time residents of Loeb. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Mildred and her twin brother William Tanner.

Cricket had been a widow for 30 years after the death of her husband T. C. Karr. She was a member of North End Baptist Church of Beaumont. She had been active in the church for many years. A good Christian lady, she rests tonight in the bosom of her loved ones in the presence of the Lord.

In her working life, she worked for Sonny Burge at Burge’s Grocery in Loeb, Texas. She also worked at Kings Ranch Bar BQ on East Lucas in Beaumont and at Grayson’s Bar BQ in Lumberton.

Cricket is survived by a son Thomas and his wife Linda, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, all of Lumberton. One grandson, Ryan Karr and his wife Tena and their son Kaleb, lived right by his granny. Their help in keeping an eye on Granny is greatly appreciated.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday, February 23, 2007 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee. Cricket will be laid to rest beside her husband in Leatherwood Cemetery in Loeb, Texas.

Also, many thanks to Dr. Lee of Lumberton and to all the nurses on the second floor of St. Elizabeth for taking such good care of Cricket. Their kindness helped her last days of earth very much. The last thing she said to me was “These folks are so good to me. I’ll never forget these folks.” Rest in peace, Ma.

I Loved My Grandma Karr very much. She was a very sweet lady, who loved her family very much. I know that she is with Grandpa Karr, and the rest of her family who she has missed so much. I will miss her always.
