I was born and raised in Silsbee and went to school with J. W. In 1957 I was in the Army, stationed in Mainz/Gonsenheim, Germany, One day I was Officer of the Day at Lee Barracks and was holding Guard Mount, inspecting the men who would serve in my guard, when I saw the name tag "Berlin" -- and it was J. W. For several months afterwards we would visit each other a couple of time a weeks over coffee in the PX. His was a familiar and smiling face in a sea of mostly strangers in a country far from home. He returned to the U.S. before I did and we went our separate ways, but I don't think of those long ago days without J.W. being a part of it. I now live in Austin. Today I checked the obits to see if one had been posted for my classmate Charlotte Caraway Rand, and was surprised and saddened to see that J. W. had died. I'm sure that I am just one of many who have fond memories of him. My prayers are with you. Perry Smith

I am saddened that Uncle JW is gone. My love and condolences go out to Aunt Shirley, Patti, Karen and Renda and all of his grandkids. I have many fond memories of JW, Shirley and the girls all gathered at Grandma and Grandpa Burlin's place when we were all kids many years ago.
