Cordia Ethel SheffieldCordia Sheffield

Cordia Sheffield, 93, of Nederland, formerly of Spurger passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at her daughter’s home.

Funeral services will be held at Farmer Funeral Home Chapel in Silsbee at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 27, 2007 with burial at Turner Branch Cemetery in Spurger. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday.

Cordia was born in Fred, Texas to J. B. “Jep” & Alma Spurlock. In 1935 she married Hooks Sheffield of Spurger. His work took them to various locations but they lived most of their married life in Spurger. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church. She loved the Lord and part of her ministry was providing transportation for children and young people to Sunday School and church. She loved to go to basketball games and worked at Spurger Mercantile for many years. In later years they moved to Port Neches to be near their daughter. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, Port Neches, Sunday School and Super 60’s until her health prevented her from attending.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years; her parents; two brothers, Arthur and Jay Spurlock; two sisters Lydia Yawn and Lila B. Harvill.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Bobby McWilliams of Nederland; three grandsons, Monte McWilliams, Kelly McWilliams of Nederland and Kevin McWilliams and wife, Pam of Galveston; 3 great grandchildren, Devin, Kammie and Brannon of Galveston; sister-in-law Juanita Spurlock; nieces and nephews who thought of her as their second Mother; and a host of friends.

She was lovingly known as “Aunt Cordia” and met everyone with love in her heart and a big smile.

Please make a copy for your mom. This is your great aunt or your Grandpa James Sheffield's sister -inlaw. This is Uncle Hook's wife.

Dear Family, I am so sorry for the loss of sweet Aunt Cordie. Mom and I have thought of her so often. Some of my best childhood memories were spending time with Uncle Hooks and Aunt Cordie at the old farm up the long lane!!! I wish you all well and please know you all are in my thoughts and prayers. Would love to hear from you all more often. God Bless You during this time and always. My Love to All --------Julie

Shirley, So sorry to hear about Ms Cordia. Billie Jones and I send our sincerest condolences and wish we could attend the visitation, but sickness and other commitments prevent it. Just the name "Ms Cordia" brings back fond memories of our high school days, even though I haven't see her for so many years. I know the Lord is happy to receive her. Howard Sheffield

Shirley, I was so sorry to hear about your mother. I called mother on her trip and told her. She was so upset that she is out of state on a tour. I just wanted to let you know that we are thinking of you. I live in Bryan now and will not be able to come over to the funeral. Love, Judy & Family
