My thoughts and prayers are with the Read family at this time. Myrtle was one of a kind. I, too remember her beautiful smile from school days in Warren. But, I also had the pleasure of getting to know Myrtle in her later years. I would visit with her every time I went to see my Dad. She asked me to call her Meemaw and I did so with great pleasure. She was a wonderful Christian example. I also discovered that Meemaw Read had a love for veterans everywhere. She made afghans for hundreds of veterans. Someone would call her up and tell her of a veteran and they would go on her "to do" list. Meemaw spent about 40 hours on each afghan! Amazing! What a treasure she was! I felt sad that I would not see her one more time. But, I feel comforted that Meemaw is in a better place now. I love you, Meemaw.

I have, as I'm sure lots of students of WHS do also, a picture in my mind of Mrs. Read in the cafeteria with a big smile on her face. She is definitely part of the history of Warren ISD and we'll always remember her. Myrtle was also a great friend to my mother-in-law, Sue Ferguson. They spent many an hour on the phone chatting about no telling what!! Sue always enjoyed going out to Myrtle's and fishing in her pond. She will be missed by many.
