Lee Johnson Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1921 - 2007

On November 15, 1921 in Millersburg, Kentucky the chimes of time rang out the news that Lee Johnson was born, a son of the late Frank T. and Carrie Henderson Johnson.

He received his early education in the public schools of Millersburg. Following school he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country faithfully from 1941-1945. After being honorable discharged from the Army he relocated to Ashland, Kentucky where he met and married the late Willene Franklin Johnson, to this union eight children were born. After the death of Willene, he later met and married Bernice Martin of Burlington, Ohio. In 1975 he married the late Katherine S. Johnson.

He was employed by Calgon Carbon Corporation from which he retired in 1987. He was a member of Johnson Memorial CME Church where he remained faithful until failing health forced him to move to Huntington, West Virginia to be close to family members. He was lovingly cared for by his daughter Shirley and son James “Mike”.

On Tuesday, July 3, 2007 from Cabell-Huntington Hospital the chimes that began ringing eighty-five years ago, rang one last time to ring out the news that Lee Johnson had gone on to join his parents, Frank and Carrie, wives Willene and Katherine, son Donald, sister Elsie Turney, four brothers Chester, Eddie, James Samuel, and Frank, Jr., Step Son Walter Saunders, nephew Harry Turney, Jr. and great-grand daughter Jasmine Janine Williams.

He leaves to cherish his memories: four daughters; Shirley A. “Pat” (Joseph) Williams of Richmond, Virginia, Barbara J. (Tony) Harris of Columbus, Ohio, Carolyn E. (Otis) Corum of Winchester, Virginia and Susan L. (Elzie) Kirkman of Columbus, Ohio. Three sons; Charles E. Johnson of Jacksonville, Florida, James “Mike” Johnson of Huntington, West Virginia and Paul D. (Christal) Johnson of Valencia, California. 27 grandchildren and step grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

He will always be remembered by his hearty laugh. Funeral service will be Saturday, july 7, 2007 at Johnson Memorial CME Church, Ashland, Ky with Reverend Aaron Moss, Officiating. Burial will follow in Ashland Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00Am until the time of the service at the church.
