I am so very sorry to hear about your son. I know there aren't any words to give you strength right now, but this was such a burden on my heart when I heard about this tragedy. Please just try to think of the many fun times and it will help you to laugh when you can. Don't focus to much on the trials your family endured and realize it is okay to cry and take as long as you need. It doesn't matter when OTHERS THINK you should be past it. I still cry two and three times a week, and it helps. Know you will probably never get over it, but instead every day that goes by you will learn to cope with it better. I miss my daughter so terribly much, but I try to keep her silly little giggle close in heart. Paula, I am praying especially for you as I do understand the grief you must feel as a Mother. If you or Mike need to talk to someone that has been there we will be here for you anytime. I am praying that the Lord will be with you and Mike and both of your families through this very trying time. God Bless you and your family. Vickie Stewart

I was so shocked to see the picture of Michael in the paper in the Bmt. Enterprise obituary section. I remember him vividly. Your son was a student of mine at Lumberton High School where I tried to help him graduate in our credit recovery program. I remember him wearing that SHS class ring proudly and I will never forget his beautiful blue eyes and smiling face. I remember that after the motorcycle accident that Michael and his mom Paula came by LHS and I visited with both of you. Michael was very positive that day even though he had many things to relearn after the accident. He still had big goals and dreams even though he was different after the accident. I admired him for his positive attitude that day! He was always polite to me as a student. I can't say that about all my students. I cannot imagine your loss or pain at this time but please know that I was sad to see another student of mine to leave this earth so young. My prayers of comfort are with you, Mrs. Laurie Thomas

Michael Joe & Paula - Just wanted y'all to know that you are in my prayers. I cannot imagine the level of your grief. Know that God and time will lessen it, and always remember the best times y'all had with him and be proud that you had him in your lives, if only for such short a time. His smiling face will live forever in your minds and hearts. Praying for you. Love, Rita

I recently in the past year got to know Michael through my job, he struck me as the most polite respectful person I dealt with. Every single time I spoke with him I was left with the thought that he was sure raised with manners. Rest well Michael.

My deepest sympathy goes out to you for your loss. One of our greatest fears is that of losing one of our children. But ya'll can rest assured that you did your best to help them along life's bumpy road. After we raise them, all we can do is turn them over to God and pray for the best. My heart goes out to you.
