Ms. Ava, I am truly sorry to hear about Eddie. He was probably the most caring, honest, and down to earth man I have ever had the pleasure of being associated with. I always looked forward to his stories around the camp fires. He will be greatly missed.

My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. Eddie and my brother Steve were great friends and I remember seeing Eddie so many times at my Mom's when I would come home to visit. He was always smiling. Jaymes Neff Los Angeles, California

The Die Clan lost a sweet giant this week: Eddie Purkey. Eddie was a guest at my 1976 wedding. I only saw Grover Die back down once. Uncle Grover wanted to mess around with the engine of the honeymoon getaway car. There was a classic moment& a stand-off, when Eddie put his hand on the hood, stood between Grover and the latch, looked down from 6 5 and said, The hood stays down. Uncle Grover said& Okay. Eddie met Uncle Carrel, too. He liked our family so much that he wanted to be part of it. When he met Ava, he found the way. He started dating her, and married her. That was thirty years ago, last month. He loved her. He loved us. He loved me. The day I told him my marriage was over, he wrapped me in his arms and broke down in sobs. He grieved when we grieved. On the other hand, we laughed when he laughed. He sent the best, funniest e-mail. I will miss his optimism and good cheer. His love, and our love for him, will carry us into our future.

Ava, I am so lost for words at a time like this and the shock still hasn't worn off. Eddie was a great guy and you are like a sister to me instead of a co-worker.The love you had for each other was so strong and I know the words "I love you" were the last words the two of you said to each other. He left this world knowing that he was loved by you and many others. I am still out sick but I will be there Sunday.Remember your love for God, family and friends will help you through this. Love you Edith
