Paul Georgas, 81, of Silsbee died Saturday, March 1 at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Paul was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 28, 1927. He moved to Buffalo, Texas at age 9. Upon graduation at Buffalo High School he enlisted in the military and served in WWII as a member of the Army Air Corps. Upon return from military service he enrolled at Sam Houston State University where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree. In 1949 he married Marilyn Georgas and returned to Buffalo to teach and coach high school football. From there they moved to Weimar to teach. In 1953 Paul was offered a job in the insurance industry in Baytown, Texas and from there got the opportunity to work in an insurance agency in Silsbee. In 1957 he moved his family to Silsbee and there he made his home. In 1968 he purchased Cravens Insurance Agency and built a successful business from which he retired in 1992.
Paul was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Silsbee and was very active in community affairs. He served as a Silsbee City Councilman, and on a number of civic and service organizations including chairman of the board of the Silsbee Doctor's Hospital, president of the Silsbee Country Club, Silsbee Lion's Club, Silsbee Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the board of the Lower Neches Valley Authority.
Mr. Georgas was preceded in death by Marilyn, his beloved wife of 56 years. He is survived by sons Carey Georgas and wife, Linda and Rob Georgas and wife, Michele all of Silsbee; grandchildren William Georgas and wife Amy, Phillip Georgas, Jana Georgas, and Caleb and Carleigh Kotrla and great grandchildren Taylor and Garrett Georgas.
Pall bearers will be Dr. Douglas Tennison, R. J. Nitsche, Tommy Moore, Don Brown, Drew Donalson, Terry Daniels, Paul Parker and Chris Eldredge. Honorary pall bearers are the members of the Men's Sunday School class at First United Methodist Church Silsbee.
Funeral services will be 10:00 am Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at First United Methodist Church in Silsbee under the direction of Farmer Funeral Home with interment following in R. S. Farmer Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Monday at the funeral home.
