Ruth Virginia Bottoms Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1921 - 2008

Ruth Virginia Bottoms, 86, a resident of Heartland of Riverview of South Point, Ohio, formerly of Huntington, WV, was taken by angels to Heaven to be reunited with her husband on March 3, 2008. She was born in Huntington, WV on March 8, 1921 to the late Emory and Shirley Mae Pennington. She retired from the US Army Corps of Engineers, where she was fondly known as the travel lady. She was a lifelong member of Jefferson Avenue Baptist Church in Huntington, where she taught Sunday school classes, sang in the choir, and served as missions secretary for many years. She spent many years making ceramics for everyone she knew, and became an avid collector of dolls in her retirement years. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Thomas Holt Bottoms; one brother, Jack Pennington; one sister, Geraldine Pennington Atkins; one infant son, Tom Bottoms Jr.; and one great granddaughter, Hailey Walters. She is survived by one sister, Betty Adkison of Gadsden, AL; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Kenneth Kendrick of Huntington, WV, and Brenda and Mark Kash of Lesage, WV; one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Jr. and Trish Bottoms of Proctorville; six grandchildren, Becky and Darrell Schell, Angie and Phillip Courtright, Tabitha and Greg Walters, Mike Bottoms, Jeremy and Robin Ellis, and Aimee Ellis; eight great grandchildren, Gregory Walters, Jessi Walters, Marissa Schell, Nathan Bottoms, Chase Ellis, Benjamin Bottoms, Caleb Walters, and Brooklyn Ellis; and a host of nieces and nephews. A very special thanks is extended to the nurses, aids, and staff who took care of mom on 400 hall at Heartland of Riverview. Funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday March 6, 2008 at Hall Funeral Home, with Pastor Brady Lipscomb officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Garden Huntington, WV. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday March 5, 2008 at Hall Funeral Home Proctorville, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Eastwood Baptist Church Missions Fund, c/o 1703 Woodward Terrace Huntington, WV 25705. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/hall.
