Robert Clayton Herrington, 83, of Silsbee, left this life on Sunday, May 25, 2008, at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, TX. He was a native of Silsbee and had lived in the Beaumont, Hamshire, and Silsbee area most of his life. He retired from Martin Gas in Mont Belvieu, TX as Terminal Manager and had worked for Texas Gas and Union Texas Petroleum Refinery in Winshire, TX. Mr. Herrington proudly served his country on board the SS Octans during WWII. He was a member of the Parkway Life Church in Lumberton, TX.
Clayton, as he was known, was born on Jan. 8, 1925, to John M. "Pomp" and Ruth Fields Herrington in Silsbee, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Milton Herrington and Raymond Herrington; his sister Ida Lee Herrington Hughes; second wife, Sydney Joyce Herrington.
Those left to mourn his loss are his wife of twenty-one years, Marion V. "Jean" Herrington of Silsbee; daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and David Bishop of Humble; sons Robert N. Herrington and Doris Herrington of Mont Belvieu; Alton E. "Tony" Herrington and wife, Kay of Beaumont; step-daughter, Pamela and husband Glenn R. Bowers of Jonesboro, AR; step-son, Alvin G. Lassiter, Jr. of Silsbee; sisters-in-law, Lozelle Herrington of Silsbee, and Imogene Herrington of Evadale; the mother of his children, Mary Hayden and husband, John of Moss Hill.
He is also survived by six grandchildren: Hollie Hanks and Coy, of Humble; Chad Herrington, Marcus Herrington, and Jason Herrington of Mont Belvieu; Rachel and John Joines of Mont Belvieu; step-grandson, Mark Lassiter and Samantha Sanchez of Silsbee; three great grandchildren, Conner Clayton Hanks, his namesake, Channing C. Hanks, Savannah Herrington; step-great grandchild, Madeleine Lassiter; niece and nephews, Brad Herrington of Silsbee,; Missy Terracina and Bryan, John and Rayford Herrington of Evadale; and Misti, his faithful companion.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee, TX with Rev. Nathan Keating and Rev. Cecil Davis officiating. Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Clayton was a great man, a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He was much loved and will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
