Teddy Roland Humphrey, 75, died at Saint Elizabeth Christus Hospital in Beaumont, Texas on Friday, May 30, 2008.
Raised in Terre Haute, Indiana, Ted attended Indiana State Teachers College for 2 years before joining the United States Coast Guard in 1952. After serving 4 years in the Coast Guard stationed at Corpus Christi, Texas, Ted moved to Houston and earned his college diploma in Business Administration at the University of Houston while working for the United States Postal Service. Mr. Humphrey was employed by the United States Treasury Department in the Harlingen and Beaumont, Texas districts as an Internal Revenue Agent until 1988. Upon his retirement, Mr. Humphrey was awarded the Albert Gallatin Award for his years of loyal service to the Treasury Department. Ted was active in his communities, serving as Treasurer for his family churches, softball, little league and various other civic and social organizations. In Beaumont, Ted also served as a Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 281 and was co-founder of Eastex Canoe Trails in 1978. Mr. Humphrey was active in the affairs of his fellow employees as a union steward and he also served as long time member on the loan committee for the Southeast Texas Federal Employees Credit Union. An avid sports fan and gardener, Ted enjoyed his retirement years residing at his small ranch north of Kountze in the company of his close friends and family. Ted is survived by two sons. Victor Humphrey, 51, lives in Springfield, MO. Perry Humphrey, 48, and his wife Robin live in Silsbee with Teds two beloved grandchildren, Gracie and Emily. Ted is also survived by his former wife, Katie Dukes of Kountze. Three nephews, all of whom were fond of their uncle Ted, live in the Midwest United States.
Our family would like to ask that in lieu of flowers or other items, donations in Mr. Humphreys name be made to Boy Scout or Girl Scout Troop in your community.
Visitation Monday 5 pm-8pm will be held at Farmers Funeral Home in Silsbee. A graveside service at Morse Cemetery in Buna will depart from Farmers Funeral Home in Silsbee at 10:00 AM Tuesday.
