J. K. Butler Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1929 - 2008

J. K. ButlerOur beloved husband, father and friend, J.K. Butler, took his last breath watching the evening news on June 2, 2008. That was his daily ritual and something he looked forward to.

J.K. is survived by his wife of 48 years, Frances Million Butler; daughters Sophie Dobbins and Ramona Johnson and son-in-law Doug Johnson and sister Wilma Ludwig, all of Silsbee. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Katie Johnson and Jake Dobbins, who meant the world to him. They were the light of his life and were the reason for his sustained, youthful outlook on life.

J.K. was born in San Augustine County on May 12, 1929 to William E. and Minnie S. Butler. He joined the Marines in 1952 and proudly served his country. He began his working career at Temple Inland's paper mill in Evadale, Texas in 1956 where he advanced in rank and effectiveness until his retirement in 1990 after 35 1/2 years of service. During his tenure, he served on the Board of the Eastex Credit Union.

It was early in his working career that a blue-eyed blond girl named Frances caught his attention. Little did he know that she was about to change his life by building a home for him which included two beautiful daughters who gave him two beautiful grandchildren. Not only did he excel as a father and grandfather, but also as a fisherman and hunter. He and his family grew up camping on the lakes, and he received joy in taking his daughters and their friends water skiing. But above all, they built a home for their family where the love and admonition of the Lord was ever-present.

J.K.'s absence will leave a void in our lives that we think only he can fill. But our Lord has promised to fill it with his peace and the knowledge that we will someday reunite in a more glorious reunion. Praise the Lord.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 4, 2008 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Farmer Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Thursday, June 5, 2008 at Pinecrest Baptist Church with interment following in R S Farmer Memorial Cemetery in Silsbee.

I don't know why Uncle JK never liked me but I am forever grateful for his visit to my mother when she was dying. I'll never forget the loving smile she had for him, it was her last.

Another year has come and gone... Jake and I miss you and always talk about something funny you said or did. He wishes you were her to take him hunting and fishing. I just miss you. I'm forever grateful for the life lessons you taught Jake. The saying "time heals all wounds" is so far from the truth. Every time we see an owl it reminds us of you! I love and miss you Pop.

It's been seven years since God called you to heaven. I miss you each and every day you've been gone. I have so much to tell you and miss our talks. Until I see you again...I love you Pop.

Frances, Sophie, and Ramona, I was so sorry to hear of J.K.'s passing. He was a wonderful husband and father. I remember all of Sophie's slumber parties when he would come in from work and talk to us or play pranks on us! May your precious memories of your time with him sustain you until you meet again. Love, Sandra

Everytime I think of JK, I can't help but think "WHAT A MAN". JK was quite a man. Many things he shared with me as a boy growing up, still stick with me today. THANK GOD for men like JK.
