Funeral services for Marvis Hiram Gore, 78, of Silsbee will be 2:00 pm Sunday, June 22, 2008 at Wiley Mae Family Worship Center with interment following in R S Farmer Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm Saturday at Farmer Funeral Home.
Mr. Gore died June 20, 2008 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
A native and lifelong resident of Silsbee, Marvis was born January 19, 1930 to Presley and Cordia Gore. He graduated from Silsbee public schools in 1947 and went on to receive a degree from Elliott Business School in Beaumont.
Marvis joined the US Air Force and served as a master sergeant during the Korean War. In 1951, he married the love of his life,Jeanette Isbell, and together they built their home in Silsbee and raised three wonderful children.
In 1958, he opened and operated Gore's TV & Appliance Store for 25 years. During this time, he served his community as president of the Silsbee Noon Lions Club and past president of Texas Electronics Association. After his retirement, Marvis loved spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He and Jeanette also loved to travel.
Marvis is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jeanette Isbell Gore of Silsbee; daughters Jo Ann Barnard and husband Jerry of Cypress and Rebecca Grisham and husband Donald of Silsbee; son Russell Gore and wife Kathy of Silsbee; brother Tracy Gore and wife Gwyn of Huntsville; his grandchildren, Craig Gore, Daniel Gore, Chris Gore, Josh Grisham, Chrystal Sharp and Christine Hargrave and great grandchildren, Bethany Hargrave, Collin Sharp and Travis Sharp.
