Carl Rupert Brockdorf age 90 formerly of Trufant died Friday July 4, 2008 at the Battle Creek Veterans Facility. He was born in Oconto Falls, Wisconsin on January 11,1918 the son of Emil and Amalia Schieve Brockdorf. He was a veteran of the US Navy and was a air traffic controller with the Civil Aeronautics Administration (FAA).
He was a probation officer with the District Court 63B Montcalm County, and also was a farmer in the Trufant area. He was educated in Milwaukee, WI at Grace Lutheran School and graduated from Washington Park High School in Racine, WI and attended Montcalm Community College receiving his bachelor degree from Central Michigan University.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Life Member of the VFW and Old Time Communicators of Southern California Society of Wireless Pioneers, USS Concord (CL10) survivors quarter century wireless association and a member of the Chapel of the Lakes Lutheran Church, Canadian Lakes, MI. He was a long time member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church Greenville serving as congregation chairman several times, also as an Elder, Secretary and Treasurer of the church.
He married Beverly J. Ruthig at her parents home in Battle Creek on November 14,1942 and after 59 plus years of marriage she preceded him in death on July 21,2002. His son Michael K. Brockdorf also preceded him on September 28,1998 and his brother Robert and sister Helen Troge preceded him.
He is survived by his sons and families; Gregory L. and Pamela and Timothy J. and Lorie Brockdorf all of Canadian Lakes MI, Jeffery L and Kathleen Brockdorf of DePeer, WS, 11 Grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, his brother William H. and Bernie Brockdorf of WI, sisters-in-law, Jeanette Brockdorf of WI and Ardis Broxholm of Sheridan and daughter-in-law, Maurine Milzarski of Canadian Lakes.
A memorial service will be held on 11 AM on Saturday July 19, 2008 from Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Greenville with Pastor Jeffrey Wilhelm officiating. Burial will be with military honors at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Greenville or Chapel of The Lakes Lutheran Church, Mecosta.
