1946 - 2008

Cecil L. JonesCECIL L. JONES

Cecil L. Jones, age 61, of Kahoka, MO, died Tuesday, August 19, 2008, at his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born August 27, 1946, in Kahoka, a son of Earl and Lorene Moss Jones.

He and Mary D. Burlingame were married March 5, 1972 in Kahoka.

Cecil is survived by his wife, Mary, of Kahoka; three sons, Gary (Lynn) Jones of Kahoka, James (Amee) Jones of Lancaster and Andy (Amy) Jones of Kahoka; three daughters, Terri Jones, Jeanne Justice and Colleen (Mrs. Jim) Elder, all of Kahoka; a brother, Wayne (Norma) Jones of Medill; a sister, Wyneta (Ken) Fishback of Kahoka; eleven grandchildren: Calem Lipper, Joshua Justice, Lincoln Jones, Jacob Justice, Dylan "D.J." Jones, Jena Elder, Aiden Jones, Adison Jones, and Christopher, Jimmy and Thomas Hessley; as well as nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson.

Cecil graduated from Kahoka High School in 1964 and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wayland. His entire life involved devoting his time to others, serving as Deputy and later as City Marshall, operating the North End Café, and in his skills as a carpenter. Not only was he a skilled carpenter, but he never considered himself too busy that he couldn't take time doing the little jobs as a handy man to many in the community, especially the elderly. His home and his surrounding buildings and yard that he designed and built, are reminders of the love and pride he had for his family. He also had a gift for sewing, and was an excellent cook. He loved to garden, loved to grow flowers, and spend time fishing and hunting. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 23, 2008, at 10 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Rev. Dan Deatrick officiating. Burial followed in the Kahoka Cemetery.

Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested to Blessing Hospice or the donor's choice.

I'm sure at a loss too know what to say [right now] I never met or new Cecil and only met my cousin's when I was around 6 to 10 years old. I sure wish I could have had more contacts with all of you. "I was where God wanted me to be"? There was no mention of why or how, Cecil was too young. And I would like to convey the condolences of the Burris families. Cousin JOHN

The toil of hard work is over for my little brother Cecil. At the young age of 12 he was already working at the North End Grocery. Our mother became ill and was out of the home quite often when he was a teenager. He would come to me for advice and guidance which continued throughout his life. I couldn`t deny him anything and was glad I could be there for him. Cecil married very young and was left with 2 small children (Gary & Terri) to raise. To make ends meet he even taught himself to sew, making dresses for his little daughter Terri. Our mother and father was also a great support to him. Cecil, Wayne and I so enjoyed sharing flower and gardening ideas together. I will miss him so much, but God is rewarding him now for the hard work and kindness he has shown others.

Cecil my Uncle- As a kid there was always tickling, apple shiners, and laughter. My home is the creation of Cecil. There is not a room in my house inside and out including the white picket fence that he has not touched with his hands. He brought the old house back to life and always made it a family project! There is not a day that goes by that his presence and hard work doesn't surround me. He will always be missed!

Cecil touched so many people's lives; he will be greatly missed. It's hard to let our loved ones go, but if you remember they are now in a position to watch over every member of the family it will help ease the pain. This road you are now traveling is a long and sometimes bumpy road. If you need a place to stop along the way, we both have been there and we will be more than happy to sit and listen, cry together, and remember the good times; as that is what friend are for. Cecil finished the work God intended for him to complete, and now he is receiving his greatest reward; everlasting life with those who have passed before. Please give us a call if you need to talk.

To The Family of Cecil: Al and I would like to say how sorry we were to hear of Cecil's passing. We only got to meet and talk with him 3 times, but they are times we will both remember for a long time. Al loved talking gardening with him (and even think he learned a few things from him). I know how much our granddaughter, Amy, loved him and will keep his presence always to their son, Aiden. Mary, we know you will have lots of tears, both for sorrow and joy for all the good memories you two shared. Your family will help get you through this time of sorrow because we could see the love they all had for him and for you. Al and Nancy Sonnengerg Montrose, Iowa
