Funeral services for Gene Tunney Smith, 81, of Silsbee will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, August 30, 2008 at Farmer Funeral Home with burial following at Franks Branch Cemetery in Fred. Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.
Tunney passed away August 27, 2008 at Silsbee Convalescent Center. Born September 26, 1926 in New Hope, Arkansas, he moved to Silsbee as a young child and lived there most of his life. Tunney worked for the City of Silsbee and Hardin County before retiring from the City of Jasper as maintenance supervisor over streets and sanitation. Tunney was well known for his ability to fix outboard motors and was happiest when he was fishing, especially with his family. He proudly served his country in the Army during WWII.
Tunney was preceded in death by his parents Ben D. and Lou Rita Smith and brothers Lowell, George, Maurice, Dean and Haskell Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Edna Mason Smith; son David Smith and wife Barbara of Silsbee; daughter Carolyn Adair and husband Bob of Silsbee; brothers Eddis Smith of Silsbee and Paul Smith of The Woodlands; sister Eunice Martin Webster of Austin; ten grandchildren and twenty one great grandchildren.
