Funeral services for Daniel David Nelams, 83, of Buna will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Buna with interment following in Morse Cemetery under the direction of Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee. Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm Monday at the funeral home and 12:00 pm Tuesday at the church.
Daniel was born January 22, 1925 to Newton and Louise Nelams. He passed away September 28, 2008 at his home in Buna surrounded by his family.
A native of Washington, Louisiana, Daniel was a longtime resident of Buna. He was a retired carpenter with Local 753. He honorably served his country in World War II in New Guinia, Marti, Louzon Phillipines, and Japan, a total of 19 months combat. He was a machine gunner. He was awarded the Combat InfantryMan Badge, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, Phillipines Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star and Good Conduct Medal of which he was very proud and the World War II Victory Medal. He was discharged with an honorable discharge.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Douglas David Nelams and John Dale Nelams, one daughter Diedra Lynn Nelams, two sisters and five brothers.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Virginia Faye Nelams of Buna; one son Harry David Nelams and wife Shanna of Beaumont; four daughters, Patricia Wiggins and husband Jimmy of Buna, Carolyn Lee and husband Mark of Silsbee, Gerrie Parker and husband Eddie of Edgewater, Maryland and Bernadine Nelams and Robert McBride of Opelousas, La. He leaves behind a heritage of 25 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren and 6 great, great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.
