Ora Mae Richard Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1929 - 2008

Ora Mae RichardFuneral services for Ora Mae Richard will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday October 8, 2008 at First Pentecostal Church in Silsbee with interment to follow at Mattox Cemetery in Survey Community Newton County.

Ora Mae Richard passed away, with children by her side, on Sunday, October 5, 2008 at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont Texas.

Born in Mayflower, TX on January 1, 1929 to the late John Hardy and Benina Catherine Ross. Oras natural Mother passed away when she was 23 days old. Nancy Jane Ross, an Aunt by marriage which we dearly loved as Grannie, took the tiny premature baby girl to raise at the age of 56. The two of them moved to Silsbee in the early 1940s. She graduated from Silsbee High School in 1946 and continued to remain close to her class mates and actively participated in class reunions. She was a member of the First Pentecostal Church in Silsbee for the last 38 years. Ora Mae dearly loved her church family. Her greatest love was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased in death by her parents, five brothers and three sisters and a very special grandson, Aaron Lee Hood, which was very dear to her heart.

She is survived by a son Charles D. Richard and wife Kathy from Lumberton, Tx, son Paul Randall (Randy) Richard of Silsbee, daughter Gwen Hughes and husband Ralph from Lake Charles, LA and daughter Barbara C. Hood and husband Kenneth of Beaumont, Tx. She is also survived by three grandchildren Melanie Steen and husband Richard of Sulphur, LA, Brandon Wilks and wife Chancie of Sulphur, LA and Alec Hood of Beaumont, Tx and four great grand children, Slone and Saige Hessifer and Isabella and Brycen Wilks all of Sulphur, LA.

Mother will be missed more than words can express, she was very loved, but our peace comes from knowing that she has a place in heaven and is with her Lord and special grandson.

Dear Barbara, Charles, Gwen, Randy, I am deeply saddened by the passing of your mother, and I know that the loss of your mother has been a terrible blow to all of you. My heart and thoughts are with you, and I pray you will be comforted in your grief. Aunt Ore Mae was a sweet and wonderful lady. I will never forget her. I enjoyed my long talk with your mother a couple of months ago while she was in Houston for a few days. I am sure you have fond memories of your mother, and I hope that in time your sorrow and pain will be forgotten and only all the good memories will remain. Sorry for your loss. Sis. Richard was a real LADY. I enjoyed going to church with her, being next door neighbor to her and working with her at West Gibson. Never did she portray anything other than the true Saint of God that she was. Her love for you, her family, was always evident and I know you will miss her greatly. As we will. May God Bless and comfort each of you.
