Robert  GregoryRobert Gregory age 90 of Cedar Springs Trufant area died Wednesday October 22 2008 at Metron of Forest Hills in Grand Rapids. He was born near Lowell on September 28 1918 the son of William and Wyoma Herald Gregory. He attended Grand Rapids Central High School and then joined the Canadian Royal Air Force serving in WW II in England. He entered the US Army Air Force after the United States entered the War effort and served with Air Offensive Europe in Normandy. He was discharged as S Sgt in August 1945. He was a member of the VFW Post # 5602 of Six Lakes. He married Maxine Looman in Grand Rapids on Feb.14, 1945 and he worked as a machinist in Tool and Die Trades for many years in Grand Rapids and Florida. He retired from the Dana Corp in Florida in 1983. He was an accomplished artist and was a member of the Sarasota Arts Association and has made several pieces of onyx and marble sculptures, and paintings and was a talented poet. He is survived by his wife Maxine Looman Gregory, their children; Robert F. (Linda) Gregory of Townville, S. Carolina, William J. (Janine) Gregory of Cedar Springs, Mary W. (Warren) Honaker of Bradenton ,Florida and Scott T. Gregory of Cedar Springs, grandchildren; Kimberly, Robert B., Christine, Richele, Scott Jr., 1st Lt. Amanda, Joe and Chris, 9 great grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Marilyn Denbore, Eleanor Van Diunen, Karen Lowrey, brothers-in-law, Tony and Therman Looman and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Robert James Gregory in 1945 and his sisters, Mary, Zoa and Sarah and brother Kenneth. Funeral services will be on Saturday October 25, 2008 at 11 AM from St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Trufant with Rev. Aaron I. Sorrels officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville. Burial will be in Spencer Mills Cemetery, Gowen with military honors provided by the VFW Post # 5602. Memorial contributions may be given to the family or to Heartland Hospice.
