Mrs. Opal A. Grannis died January 1, 2009 at Green Acres Retirement Living in Greenville, leaving lasting memories, as she has gone to reside in her forever home. Opal was born on July l1, 1919 in Harvard the daughter of Frank and Ama (Hart) Wilson and was an active member at East Nelson United Methodist Church, Greenville Christian Womens Club, and Griswold School Board all of which she served as treasurer, her favorite position.
She was married to Paul Grannis, on Nov.11, 1938 and she now joins him in heaven. Together they had raised four children to continue her family traditions, Lynne Zank, Carol (Larry) Richard, JoAnn (Rick) Surdam and Ted (Darlene) Grannis, grandchildren,
Heidi (Steve) Reed, Heather (Dave) Wolfe, Hod (Kristen) Zank, Amanda (Kevin) Green, Cory (Jesse) Surdam, Betsy, Cassie and Michael Grannis, great Grandchildren, Trey, Thomas, Trevor, Brandon and Kristi, Brock, Bayley, Taylor, Austin, Aden, Tarin, Kelsi and Kallie and her sister-in-law, Doris Grannis.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, son-in-law Don Zank, grandson, David Grannis, brothers, Virgil, Lloyd and Ernest Wilson.
Opal loved holidays, birthdays, bus trips, renting cottages on Lake Michigan and fishing at Rice Lake, needlework, flower gardening and Lawrence Welk on Saturday nights. She had the gift of hospitality and graciousness. Her role as mother, grandmother, great Grandma Dance and great Grandma Op will remain in our memories.

A celebration of life will be held on Monday January 5, 2009 at 11 AM from East Nelson United Methodist Church with her Pastor, Rev. Herb Vanderbilt officiating. Burial will be in East Nelson Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2-5 PM at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville. Memorial contributions may be given to East Nelson United Methodist Church
