Orangie Orn B. Brigner age 88 of Greenville died Sunday January 11, 2009 at Spectrum Health United Memorial Campus Greenville. He was born in Celina, Ohio on August 25,1920 the son of Bert and Ardella Culver Brigner moving to the Mesick Michigan area at a very young age. He entered the US Army On September 28,1942 and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater where he was wounded in action at Luzon Island the Philippines receiving a purple heart and one bronze star. He was discharged from Fitzsimons Army Hospital Denver after recovery and returned to Greenville. He married Marian Darby in Belding on December 27,1947 and worked for many years at the former Gibson Refrigerator Co. and was a member of the First Church of God in Greenville and the Lester J. Sitts Post # 5065 VFW of Sheridan.
Orn had a love of gardening, fishing, even having his own trout pond, and hunting.
His wife Marian preceded him in death on March 21, 1989. He was the last surviving Brigner child of Bert and Ardella preceded by his siblings, Delbert in WW II, Russell and Katherine Brigner, Laura and Basil Snider, Lillian and LaVerne Sewell, Katherine and Pete Petersen and Bertha and Morris Thiebaut.
Surviving are his nieces and nephews and special friend Catherine Hansen of Greenville.
Funeral and committal services will be held on Friday January 16, 2009 at 1 PM from Hurst Funeral Home with Rev. Dennis Johnson officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-7 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding. Military Honors will be provided by the VFW Post # 5065 of Sheridan. Memorial contributions may be given to First Church of God or Greenville Bible Methodist Church.
