1915 - 2009
Josephine Elizabeth Tingley age 94 of Greenville died Saturday May 2, 2009 in Ionia at Green Acres Retirement Living. She was born in Orleans Township, Ionia County MI on February 16, 1915 the daughter of Fred B. and Edith S. Murry Hawley. She graduated from Ionia High School and taught at country schools including Tasker School early in her career. She retired from The Greenville Daily News. She was a 70 year member of the First United Methodist Church of Greenville and was a member of the Greenville Community Center, Eureka Aid and the Red Hat Society. She had wintered in Florida for many years. She married Paul Tingley at her parents home in May of 1937 and he preceded her in death in 1988. Also preceding her in death were her son in law Robert Loppnow in 1999 and her brother Murry Hawley.
Surviving are her daughter Joy Jenkins of Palmetto Florida and her son Jerry and Linda Tingley of Greenville, grandchildren, Christine Bassuener of Cascade, Todd and Lori Jenkins of Iron River, Wisconsin, Angela Durham of Greenville, great grandchildren, Donavan, Jacob, Jonathan and Amanda, great great granddaughter Kailynne and her sister in law Julia Donavan of Florida.
A private family funeral was held at Hurst Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Charnley officiating with burial in Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding. Memorial contributions may be given to the Greenville Senior Center or the First United Methodist Church of Greenville.
