Here we are Christmas Day. I've never been much for letting my feelings show but maybe using this as a little diary, will help. Six months on Christmas Eve dad passed away and it feels like Six years. Will it ever get any easier? Will the sadness ever ease up? The constant thoughts of wanting to call dad on the phone and talk about the michigan game? Go and sit in the bitter fall cold and try out best to atleast see some deer? If only I could have that one more conversation with dad....talk about those things that you always hope to be able to talk about before its too late. We never had that and I think that in itself is what really saddens me. If only....I know everyone says that right? But dad and I never had that talk before....it was so sudden. Maybe someday, god willing, we will talk again. But as we troll around in the middle of the Christmas season, there is no feeling more evident than the sadness of not having my father here with me...with my family... Heres to you dad....a great husband....father....grammpy. I love you and miss you so much!

Dear Sherd Family, I was very saddened to here of the loss of Dave. He was always a good buddy and neighbor to let me tag along on our adventures growing up in Carson City. Three things come to mind when thinking about these early years. First the endless days playing Army. This game may have to be expained for the younger generations but for us growing up in the 60's it was a favorite thing to do. For some reason Dave and his brother Mike always ended up on opposite teams as there was always a little competion going on. In actuality it was just a lot of make believe and fantasy but such fun to make forts, sneek up on each other and that kind of stuff. I also remember the numerous baseball games in the yard between Dave's parents and the elementary school. In our eyes many spectacular plays took place on our own field of dreams. As I recall these games on occassion became heated but Dave was always the peace maker, helping us settle our differences so we could get back to the game and having fun. Finally, and this is a silly memory but Dave was about 5 years older than me and left for college/service and to be truthfully we didn't see each other much after that. But I do remember when he first came home from the service and had a new car. He took me somewhere and I was fasinated by the new cassette player it had in it. Wow, I was impressed and it was actually in a car! As you get older you seem to cheerish your childhood memories more and Dave will always be a bright spot in my memories. Please know that your family are in our prayers and thoughts. Randy Knepper

I would like to be able to share this at Daves funeral but I know I wouldnt be able to make it without breaking down. So please allow me some space here to share some heart felt messages for Kathy, Amy, Corinne, and Rohn. Ever since I can remember there have been 3 musketeers, Dave, Ed, and Bill (my dad) for more than 30 years they were inseparable at Progressive. The times and practical jokes they shared with each other and the other ole timers of Progressive will never be forgotten. They had dreams of walking out together as they retired, but Progressive wouldnt let this happen. Dave was the first to go, followed by Ed, and then my dad. This didnt deter their friendship, if anything it made it stronger. Monthly dates with their beautiful wives were a regular occurrence. The last time I was able to visit with Dave & Kathy was at Dicks funeral this spring. He was his typical positive happy self even though he was still in the process of finding out the extent of his illness himself. He didnt let this deter him from crawling around on the floor with our 2 year old daughter, acting silly, singing and even sharing the cheese and turkey from her sandwich.... I knew then that I never wanted to forget this, because it was so special that Emily was able to bond with Dave over some cheese and turkey. I have to admit to have this be my last visit with Dave, couldnt be any better. I have been so lucky, my husband lost his dad at an early age, I am lucky enough to have had 3 dads, till I was nearly 40. Now again it was Dave to be the first to leave this earth, but Ed and Dad dont worry, he is checking out a better place and I think he is setting up some practical jokes for you guys. Kathy and kids, you are in my thoughts, prayers and family. We will always be here for you. I am so sorry for your loss. What an AMAZING man, what a loss.

I worked with Dave for many years at Progressive AE and have wonderful memories of those past years with him. He probably had completed more design projects on Meijer stores with his close compatriates of Bill Liddie and Ed Symanski than any other design team in the history of Meijer. The GR electrical engineering community has lost a consistant, hard working designer and a great family man. My thoughts and payers go out to the Sherd family and his close friends. Donald Nolte
