Wallace Wally G. Simmons Jr. age 88 of Bass Lake Gowen died Thursday July 2, 2009 at Spectrum Health United Memorial Campus in Greenville. He was born in Lakeview MI on September 24, 1920 the son of Wallace and Charlotte Lottie Wilson Simmons.
Wally was the founder and former owner of Simmons Gravel Co in Greenville. He was a US Army veteran serving in WWII where he volunteered for combat with the 40th Infantry Division and participated in the liberation of the Philipinnes and he was a life member of the VFW Post #3741 of Greenville. He married the former Lorraine E. Kulas after returning from WWII. He was known for his sense of humor and hard work and was loved by his family especially the grandchildren whom he loved.
He is survived by his wife Lorraine of Gowen, their sons John A. and Cassandra Simmons of Bass Lake, Gowen and Larry J. and Gloria Simmons of Greenville, his grandchildren; Stacy and Don Watts, Stefanie and Mike Henry, Lori and Scott Johnston, Steven Wallace and Angela Simmons, Denise Simmons, Cindy Simmons, Kelly Simmons and Taryn Simmons, great grandchildren, Alexander Watts, Cayla Watts, Zachary and Rebecca Henry and Cassie Lorraine Simmons.
His son Wallace E. Simmons preceded him in death in 2006 and his brothers Richard, Robert and Lyle Simmons also preceded him in death.
Private family services were held at Hurst Funeral Home with Rev. Jeffrey Wilhelm officiating. Memorial contributions may be given to the VFW Post # 3741 in Greenville or to a charity of your choice
