Betty Jean Rood age 81 of Gowen died Friday July 10, 2009 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus Grand Rapids. She was born in Kittanning, PA on Nov 6, 1927 the daughter of Carl W. and Catherine J. Smith Whited. She enjoyed being a mother and grandmother and a friend to many. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, John H. Rood in 2006 and also her daughter Patricia D. Lundquist, son Timothy Rood and daughter-in-law Patricia Rood, her parents and brother William Whited.
She is survived by her daughter Catherine and David Havens of Fenwick, sons, John H Rood, Richard and Maxine Rood of Greenville and Craig A. Rood of Gowen, 19 grandchildren, 30 great and 8 great great grandchildren, her sister Doris and Lavern Wolfe of Pennsylvania, brothers-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Rood, Fay Rood, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Rood, Susan Rood, Mr. and Mrs. Abe Rood and Thelma Rood , nieces and nephews and good friends.
Funeral and Committal services will be held on Monday July 13th at 3 PM from Hurst Funeral Home with Rev. Curtis Freed officiating. Burial will be in Oakfield Cemetery, Greenville. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 PM on Monday. Memorial contributions may be given to the family.
