Virginia "DIANE" Hammer. Diane's life journey began on April 14, 1928, and ended July 15, 2009, in Grand Rapids, MI. Diane had a gusto for life which she shared with her family and many friends. She worked at GM-Alpine retiring in 1988. Diane enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening, crafting, card and other games and traveling with friends and family. If someone said "shall we...". Diane was quick to say "Yes, lets do it!!" Diane has now been reunited with her parents, Percival and Virginia Bailey, brothers Charles "Bud" and Barry Bailey, son Mark G. Wisman, and grandson Austin R. Hammer in heaven. Diane is survived and celebrated by daughter Kathi Ann DeJong, sons Ronny M. Wisman and wife Diane, Nicholas C. Hammer, Embert L. Hammer and wife Missy, and Scott A. Hammer, grandchildren Margo Koning, Michael and Matthew Swedberg, Amber Wisman Bueher, Ryan and Conor Wisman, JP, Amanda, Justin and Shannon Hammer and Randi and Cody Hammer. Great-grandchildren, Cheyann Fisk, Austin Koning and Blayke Hammer, sister-in-law Sharon Bailey and many Dear Friends of multi-generations who all remember Diane as a woman who "did it her way!" A friend said "She was a cool lady!" and that she was. Memorial services are Tuesday July 21 2009 at 1 PM at Washington Park Memorial Cemetery, Grand Rapids with Rev. Ken Harger officiating. A luncheon will be held at the American Legion Post # 47 in Comstock Park following the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be given to the American Kidney Foundation.

As Kathi's bestfriend for the last 43 years, I think I know what she has gone through better than anyone at the hands of her mother. Kathi, I want you to put your arms around that little girl you were when she left you and tell that little girl that she will be alright. It wasn't your fault. And as for Judy Vereeke, you have NEVER walked in Kathi's shoes! Not for one minute! How dare you judge Kathi! You don't have a clue. Kathi lived her whole life without a mother and she is the kindest, sweetest woman I know. Diane has NOTHING to forgive Kathi for. I just hope that Kathi can forgive her mother and move on with her life. I know she will...she's done it all these years. Shame on you Judy, shame on you!

Kathi, as your best friend of 43 years, I know how hard it was on you growing up without a mother. Please give that little girl a great big hug and bury the sadness with Diane. As for her "friend" Judy, you have never walked in Kathi's shoes. You have NO idea what she has endured for all these years at the hand of her mother and grandmother. How DARE you berate Kathi in a message of condolence for all to read! She is the kindest, most giving person I know and she has had to learn to be that way without any help from her "mom". I know I shouldn't say anything ill about someone that they just buried, but you have no right to speak of Kathi in this way! Diane has nothing to forgive and Kathi has ALL to forgive. Thank God Kathi "forgave" her mom before she passed! Shame on you for causing Kathi more grief than was necessary!

Dear Kathi and family, I was reading the paper and saw that you had lost your MOM. I am so sorry. I know you were very close to her. If she had been sick, now she is not suffering and in a better place. God Bless you. Love, Karol
