Jimmy O LafonJimmy O. Lafon, 64, of Proctorville, OH, died July 29, 2009, at his residence. He was born January 20, 1945, in Huntington, WV, son of the late George Lee and Marguerite Owens Lafon. He is survived by and will be sadly missed by his wife of 38 years Peggy Lafon; three sons, Kevin and Mendy Lafon of Shelby, OH, JD and Rachel Lafon of Grove City, OH, and Troy Corley and his wife Sherine of Kalamazoo, MI; two brothers Dan and his wife Thelma of Proctorville, OH, and John and his wife Brenda of Chesapeake, OH; two sisters, Delores and her husband Jim of Kenova, WV, and Bonnie Oxley of Atlanta, GA; mother and father-in-law Ernest and Helen Yinger of Jackson, OH; five grandchildren Jena, Dennis, and Owen Lafon, Amir and Amren Ross-Obare, and a host of friends and several very faithful friends. Jim graduated from Chesapeake High School in 1962 and was a proud member of the 61 undefeated football team. He served in the US Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was retired from sales in 1997. He was a member of the VFW Post 9738 and a member of the American Legion Post 16. The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice of Portsmouth, Cabell Huntington Dialysis Center, and the VA Medical Center for their kindness and care. Family has requested in lieu of flowers donations can be made in memory of Jim to Heartland Hospice of Portsmouth 35 Bierly Rd., Portsmouth, OH 45652 or to the American Cancer Society. Visitation will be held 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday August 1, 2009 and funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday August 2, 2009 at Hall Funeral Home Proctorville, Ohio conducted by Rev. George Vastine. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery with VFW military service. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/hall.

Peggy, J.D. and Kevin. We want you to know that we are so sorry for your loss. Jim was a great man and he especially had a big heart for his family and friends. I have a vivid memory of being a Green B buddy basketball cheerleader in 3rd grade and chanting, along with my teammates (and at the urging of Stephanie Fisher), "Let's get fired up! (Hey, you! Jim Lafon!) You all will be in my prayers.

Peggy,Kevin,JD i am so sorry. Jim was once like a dad to me in my childhood, he was always so nice to me . he taught me to say yes or no because when he wanted to give something to me i would always say i don't care...god bless you guys during these hard times.. i love you guys
