1916 - 2009
Florence Elizabeth Helsel age 93 of Greenville died at her home in Green Acres Retirement Living Wednesday August 19, 2009.She was born in Donnellson, Iowa on January 23, 1916 the daughter of August and Lottie Krebil Lowenberg. She was a nurse graduating in Iowa and working for the Veterans Hospital. She married Wayne Helsel in 1937. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Greenville and the Thalia Club. Her husband preceded her in death in 1985 and her son Dennis in 2007 and was also preceded by her brothers Lester and Calvin and sisters Alberta and Stella.
She is survived by her sons, Donald and Susan Helsel of Ontonagon, Gary Helsel of Indianapolis IN and Alan Helsel of Chandler AZ , her grandchildren, Steven Helsel and Jeanette and Jim Clark, great grandchildren, Hannah and Abigail and her sister in law Doris Helsel of Rockford Illinois.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday August 25, 2009 at 1 PM from the First Congregational Church with Rev. Jerrold T. Jones officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding. Memorial contributions may be given to the First Congregational Church

Florence was such a wonderful woman and an inspiration to me. Because Florence knew I loved History, We'd often amble into the past and discuss some of the finest moments in History. Florence loved to talk about her travels, and was so delighted when my Mom and I came to visit her. when we moved next door, we made sure that she wasn't alone, and had company especially on the holidays.

I remember you from days at GHS. Losing a parent is a such difficult thing, though it is wonderful she lived such a long life. You have my deepest sympathy and you'll be in my thoughts and prayers.
