Edith Forsythe Higgins

Edith Higgins, 93, went home to be with her Lord on September 23, 2009. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held 2 PM October 10, 2009 at Faith Baptist Church.

She was born Edith May Nicholson on March 27, 1916 to parents James and Myra Nicholson in Gallitzin, PA. She graduated from Gallitzin High School in 1933. She married William Forsythe July, 1937 and they relocated to Detroit. They had five children, including a stillborn son. Edith and Bill regularly vacationed in Pennsylvania to visit family.

Edith had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and a true passion for missions. She was an active member of Faith Baptist Church in Greenville. She supported missionaries not only with donations, but with her prayers and letters. She often hosted visiting missionaries in her home. She was a Godly example of a Christian woman as well as a prayer warrior for all her family and will be greatly missed.

She was a wife, mother, and had a long career as a salesclerk for JL Hudsons in Detroit. She became a widow in 1969 and was widowed for 22 years. She retired from Hudsons in 1980 and later moved to Greenville, Michigan where she met and married Robert Higgins in June 1991. They had 15 blessed years of marriage before he passed away. She and Bob enjoyed summers on the Higgins farm and winters in Mesa, Arizona.

Mrs. Higgins was preceded in death by her husbands, her son, James Forsythe and daughter Jean McConaghy, son-in-law Richard Jessop as well as an infant son. Now they are reunited.

Edith is survived by two daughters, Fern Jessop and Donna (Marvin) Shepherd and also her daughter-in-law Pat Forsythe. The grandchildren are twins of Jean; Juli Banks and Eric McConaghy, sons of Jim; Joe and Jim Forsythe, children of Fern; Steve Jessop and Christy Eagle, children of Donna; Jeremy and Josh Shepherd and Sarah Lopez. The nine great grandchildren are Chelsea, Faith and Austin Banks; Eliza McConaghy; Payton Lopez; Alexis, Patrick, and Jacob Forsythe; and Nicholas Forsythe. Memorials may be sent to Faith Baptist Church and Gideons International.
