Mildred C. BoiceMILDRED C. BOICE

Mildred Caroline Boice, age 89, of 227 E. Exchange St., Kahoka, MO, died Sunday, October 25, 2009, at her home as she had wished.

Mildred was born on August 30, 1920 in Kahoka, MO, to Orton and Lena Theiss Heinze.

She married Robert Boice, on January 9, 1944, in Washington, D.C.

Mildred grew up as a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Kahoka. As an adult, she was a member of Bethany Christian Church in Camp Springs, Maryland.

She graduated from Kahoka High School and completed her education in Kirksville.

She worked as a secretary for the State Department, American Security and Trust Bank, and Equitable Life Assurance in Washington, D.C. She returned to Kahoka for annual visits, and moved permanently in 2005. She was a well-known figure as she made her way around town on her scooter and frequented the local restaurants to visit with friends.

Survivors include two daughters, Sharon and Dona Boice both of Camp Springs, Maryland; a granddaughter, Lisa Boice, also of Camp Springs; a niece, Vivian Perry and her husband, Larry, of Luray, MO; nephews: Leland Linquist and his wife, Karen, of Keokuk, IA, Gerald and Marvin Heinze of California, and Donald Heinze of Maryland.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, in 1970; her parents, Orton and Lena Heinze; a brother, Peter Heinze of Maryland; and, sisters, Ruth Dinger and Esther Linquist Saar both of Kahoka.

Mildred was a gifted craftsperson who made cross stitch greeting cards, many art objects from rocks and minerals, and necklaces for the Clark County Nursing Home. She and her late husband, Robert, shared a love of rockhounding.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul Cemetery with a memorial service to be held at a later date.

Memorials are suggested to St. Paul Cemetery or the family.
