LILLIAN GIGI FORTE THURSTON
An angel lived among us for 88 years. Mrs. Thurston made her transition on December 26 to claim a lasting peace and comfort, as she provided to many others during her nursing career in Huntington. After graduating from St. Marys School of Nursing, she was the first of her race employed by the Cabell-Huntington Hospital Pediatric Unit. In retirement, she continued to bless a wide circle of family and friends with a gentle, caring manner. Lillian loved to travel; always enjoyed a variety of social and cultural activities; and, was a charter member of both the Ladies of the Loyal Order of Bison and Ye Ole Duchess Bridge Club. Mrs. Thurstons deep spirituality was readily evident. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Huntington where she served as usher, but always affiliated with churches wherever else she resided. She would not rise from bed until completing a daily devotional reading and the referenced scripture. Until very recently, she enjoyed attending church and singing along with the choir despite her illness. Preceding her are: husband Motee; parents Arthur Forte and Cordelia Forte Hill; and, brother Jack Forte. Gigi will remain affectionately in the memories of sister Ruth Forte Finley; in-laws Richard and Sonya Luckie (devoted care-givers); and, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. A graveside service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 4, 2010 at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Huntington, WV. There will be no visitation. Hall Funeral Home Proctorville, Ohio is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that any expression be in the form of gifts to First Baptist Church of Huntington. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/hall.
