John P. Simpson Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1943 - 2010

John P. SimpsonJohn P. Simpson, 66 of Proctorville, Ohio formerly of Huntington, WV passed away suddenly on Sunday, March 21, 2010. John was born on April 27, 1945. He is survived by daughters Trisha Simpson of Charleston, WV and April Simpson Angell of Charleston, WV; two grandchildren Cheyenne and Dane York; two step children Aubrey and Chad Shoemaker. John is also survived by siblings Lucille Harter of Fuquay- Varina, North Carolina; Lois Robinson of Rustburg, Virginia; William of Gainsville, Georgia; Joseph of Frametown, West Virginia; many nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews. John also leaves behind his true love Kim Simpson; his best friend Rusty Jeter; and his buddy Frosty his dog. John retired from the CSX railroad with 34 years of service. He carried on a long time family tradition as his father William M. Simpson and sister Lucille both worked for the railroad. John also belonged to the C & O Credit Union where he was appointed a member of the Board of Directors in 1983. John was elected President of the Board of Directors on several occasions. His invaluable services to the credit union will be greatly missed. John was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church of Proctorville, Ohio for many years. John's greatest passion was recording the services on Sunday mornings and delivering them to the elderly and the shut ins. John also sang in the choir on occasion and was very devoted to the Men's Saturday Breakfast Prayer Group. John had a great love for traveling in his motor home and he would ride for hours on end on his bicycle. There was no greater joy to John than to put Frosty and himself on his bike and just ride meeting new people and seeing new sights. He had a great love of the outdoors. When he came back from Florida this winter he said "That's it never again will I spend another winter in the cold where I can't ride my bike and I can't feel the warm wind blowing in my face." He was dearly loved by his children and grandchildren. YOU WILL BE MISSED. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 26, 2010 at New Hope United Methodist Church, Proctorville, Ohio by Rev. Greg Inboden. Visitation will be held 6 to 8 pm Thursday, March 25, 2010 at Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville, Ohio. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to New Hope United Methodist Church Building Fund in John's memory. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/hall.

So sorry to learn of your Dad's death. We just found out last week. We so enjoyed him at our class reunion parties (SAHS Class of 61). He was full of life at the Christmas party and we all had such fun. I had just e-mailed him about our last meeting and told him about the summer picnic, the christmas party and the start of plans for our 50th next year. Although he didn't attend all of our high school years with us he will certinally be missed. He made the hearts of all us "old" ladies go flip flop. I wish we had known of his death sooner. Our sincere condolances from the St. Albans High School Class of 1961

To all of John's beloved family. My heart is broken, as I know your's are too. I knew John all of my life. He was my brother John Martin's best friend all of his life. When my brother John passed away in March of 1993, I kept in close touch with John. I have many wonderful, and sometimes humorous memories of growing up with him. Having two John's as brothers was always wonderful. I will miss him deeply. I know my life was made better for having him a part of it. He will be forever in my heart and will never be forgoten. Trish, April, and family.... Rosanne, Becky and I were all talking about how much Uncle Johnny and all "the uncles" always made us laugh- especially when they were all together! I just saw an old photo the other night of Uncle Johnny in a Santa Suit ( with me on his lap). He was being Santa for my little ones when we were visiting. We will miss him! We are sorry to be so far away an unable to attend the service, but know our thoughts and prayers have been with you! Much Love, Terry and Bob and family

Uncle Johnny will be missed very much. I remember fondly the laughter and the good times sitting around with family listening to his stories. He loved to be with people and especially poured much love into his family. I am so glad to know that we will be reunited someday in Heaven. Much love and prayers to all our family who loved him, especially Trish and April. You are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time of grief. Love, Rosanne (and family)

I just feel moved to express sympathy for your loss. I never met Johh, however reading about his life reveals he was a quality man. I hope you all can, one day be comforted by your memories and the knowledge that you were blessed to have him in your life. May the Big Guy in heaven smile upon you and bless you as begin to journey without him. Deepest sympathy, Marlee
