Darlene E. Clark Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1920 - 2010

Darlene E Clark, 90, widow of Wm. M. Don Clark, passed away on Friday August 27, 2010, at Mt Carmel St Ann's Hospital in Westerville, OH. Darlene was also preceded in death by her parents, Leroy F Roy and Chloe (Morris) Ellcessor, and by her first child, Linda Lee Clark, who died in 1942 at 2 years and 4 months.

Darlene, who was born on May 17, 1920, at Bradrick, Lawrence County, Ohio, was the 1938 valedictorian of Windsor High School. She and Don were married at Scottown, Ohio on December 15, 1938. Darlene and Don lived in the home he built north of Proctorville, Ohio for most of their 48 year marriage. She worked outside the home only during WWII. She was a member of Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church for about 60 years, and was an active member in the ladies Gleaner's Circle there. She was a member of the Proctorville group of the Lawrence County Homemaker's Clubs, served as a 4-H advisor for several years, was a member of the Windsor Grange, and was a member of the Proctorville VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She and Don sold plants, shrubs, and gardening supplies during much of the 1970's and early 1980's from a greenhouse Don built when he retired. Since 2004 Darlene had spent part of the year with her daughters family near Myersville, MD.

She is survived by two children: Donald R (Christina) Clark of Proctorville, and Angela (Bruce) Thompson of Middletown, MD; five grandchildren: Cynthia (Matthew) Maxson in England, Daniel R Clark of Frederick, MD, and Jacob Wm, Rachael Erin, and Seth Allen Thompson of Middletown, MD; and two great grandchildren: Lydia Marie and Isaac Ethan Maxson in England. She is also survived by two sisters: Jewell Hineman of Gallipolis, OH and Lois Everhart of Locanto, FL (formerly of Proctorville, OH); and a brother, Mack M Ellcessor of Manitou Beach, MI. There are many nieces and nephews.

The whole family wish to thank the staff of Country View of Sunbury, OH, and of the Palliative Care/Hospice Care unit of Mt Carmel St. Ann's Hospital for the wonderful care given her during the last month of her life. We also want to thank the staff of Daybreak Adult Day Services of Frederick, MD for their assistance over the last four years. Although mom loved flowers, donations to the Mount Carmel Foundation for Hospice/Palliative Care at St. Ann's (https://secure.mchs.com/foundation2/gift or by calling 614-546-4500 ) or to Daybreak (7819 Rocky Springs Road, Frederick, MD, 21702, Ph: 301-696-0808) would be a wonderful loving gesture.

Arrangements are being handled by Hall's Funeral Home of Proctorville, OH. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday evening August 31, 2010 from 6-8 PM. Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday September 1, 2010 at 1 PM. Burial will follow at Perkins Ridge Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/hall.

Reading Darlene's obituary brings back a lot of memories of growing up in Scottown. Jewell was in my class at Windsor and we had some teen age parties at the Ellcessor house. They were good days. My heartfelt condolences to the family.
