1946 - 2010
Donald Lee Black, 63, of Chesapeake, Ohio, passed away on Sunday September 5, 2010 at River's Bend Nursing Home. He was born September 7, 1946, the son of Wanda Floyd Black Hayes of Proctorville and the late Chester Donald Black. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a daughter Allison Leigh Black. Don served in the United States Army, including a one year tour in Vietnam. He was a former chef of 21 years at Holiday Inn Gateway and nine years at Woodland Retirement Community. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Brenda Whitley Black; two sons, D. Matthew and Shantelle Black of Chesapeake, Ohio and Patrick Carroll and Julia Black of Rawson, Ohio; one daughter Holly Nicole Black of Chesapeake, Ohio; three grandchildren Payton (Myky) Harmon, Justin W. Black, and Jonathan M. Black; two brothers, Fred Black and Tony Black ; and a special cousin Tammy Pike. A graveside service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday September 8, 2010 at Rome Cemetery by Rev. Clint Walker, with burial to follow. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday September 7, 2010 at Hall Funeral Home Proctorville, Ohio. Proctorville VFW Post #6878 will conduct military graveside rites. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Proctorville VFW Post #6878. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/hall.

I worked with Don for 17 years at the Gateway. I am so sad that he has passed. We fought and argued constantly but never with any malice, only as long time co-workers. Working with someone so long they feel like family. I will always remember one winter we had to push start his Voltswagon every night and he would go home with a sterno for a heater. I am so sorry for your loss.

Your Husband and Father was a good man.I was a Hostess in the Supper Club and he was always good to me and my Enployees.

Uncle Donnie always held and always will hold a special place in my heart. I have a lot of great memories of cookouts at your house,grandma and grandpa Black's farm,and the Whitley farm.
