Randall "Pete" Franklin Petrie, 84, of Proctorville, Ohio died on Tuesday, October 5, 2010, at home surrounded by his family. The son of the late Iva Jewell Petrie and the late Randall Foster Petrie, Randall was born in Hamlin, WV on April 24, 1924. In addition to his parents, Mr. Petrie was preceded in death by his wife Hannah E. Petrie and one sister Glennith Oney. Survivors include his children, Kathy Sullivan (Mark) who reside in Ohio, Keith Petrie of Indiana, his very special grandson Joshua Ryan Petrie, who resides in WV, a sister Mary Bias from WV and a host of nieces and nephews. Being a gifted athlete, Mr. Petrie gave up the offer of a college career in sports to serve his country during WWII, serving with the US Army in Germany and Italy. Mr. Petrie retired as a Station Lineman from CSX after many years of service, working at various assignments from Staunton, VA to Russell, KY. Randall was a member of the Can do Club which is associated with CSX and was a Kentucky Colonel. Further, he was a long term member of the Teresa Chapter No. 257 of the Order of Eastern Star. Randall was involved in the Masons, being a member of the Hamlin Lodge #79, Scottish Rite and Beni Kedem Shriners of Charleston, WV. He was also a member of the Proctorville V.F.W. Post 6878. Being a member of the Rome Church of Christ Mr. Petrie held his Church family in high esteem. To his family and friends, Mr. Petrie was known as a humanitarian, a historian and a true patriot to his country. Randall was an avid Marshall University fan, supporter and contributor for more than 50 years, following the Thundering Herd teams to both home and away games even during their darkest times. Funeral services will be conducted by 2 p.m. Friday, October 8, 2010 by Minister Brad Poe at Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville, Ohio. Entombment will follow at Rome Cemetery, Proctorville, Ohio. Visitation will be held 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, October 8, 2010 at Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville, Ohio. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/hall.

Keith, Kathy and Josh, Pete was a very special man and a great friend to both of my parents. I am glad he is no longer suffering nor limited by his earthly body, but very sad that he can no longer be with us. He will be truly missed.

We are so sorry for your loss and will be in our hearts and prayers during this time. I enjoyed talking to Mr. Petrie at church and me and my family have enjoyed going to the Shriner's Circus for the last three years, due to his generosity. He will be missed dearly.
