MITCHELL, Katie V.

Paw Paw

Katie passed away Monday morning, November 22, 2010 at her home. She was born February 20, 1932 in Detroit the daughter of the late Antoni and Clara (Schamahorn) Misuraca. Katie attended Western Michigan University. After her marriage to Gene they together managed the Dyckman Hotel in Paw Paw from 1958 until 1963. They then owned and operated Gene Mitchell Tavern in Paw Paw for 40 years from 1963 until 2002. She was the commissioner of the Gene Mitchell Softball complex in Paw Paw and attended all of Paw Paw High Schools sporting events. She enjoyed cooking holiday meals for her family and raising horses. She was a caring and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a member of St. Mary's Church, Paw Paw. On June 28, 1952 in Paw Paw, Katie was united in marriage to Eugene R. Mitchell who survives. Also surviving are 3 sons, Gary Mitchell and Rick (Sherrie) Mitchell of Paw Paw and Jerry Mitchell of New York, NY; grandchildren, Kristen, Kraig, Andrew, Derrick, Madison and Grace Mitchell; great grandchildren, Chase and Caiden Bunch and Jackson Mitchell; sister, Josephine Howard of Paw Paw; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Misuraca. Family will receive friends Friday 5 to 8 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw where a vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday evening. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Paw Paw with Rev. Fr. Joseph Xavier and Rev. Fr. Robert F. Creagan concelebrants. Interment will following in St. Mary's Cemetery, Paw Paw. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southwest Michigan or St. Mary's Church.

I have so many fond memories of Katie and her family. She did a great job in everything she did in life. She was a great mother, grandmother, wife, and a friend to all that she knew. I will miss her.

To the entire Mitchell family Katie will be missed by everyone who knew her. She was a wonderful person. I knew her both through my parents and Mitchell's Bar. I knew the Mitchell family since Uncle Joe and Aunt Dorothy owned it. I was even named afte Sandy and Jay Jay and proud of it . What a wonderful family. Prayers and love to you all.

The Mitchell Family: We've known the Mitchell's ever since I was a little girl. My dad, Victor Vukorpa and Gene have been best friends since they were teens. Some of my earliest and enjoyable memories are of the fun I had as a boy running all around Katie and Gene's house and neighborhood. Katie was such a true friend of everyone she met, even us wild little hellions. My most heartfelt condolences goes out to Gene, Gary, Rick, Jerry and the entire Mitchell family. God Bless you all!
