1928 - 2011
Daniel C. Barela, 82, of Huntington, WV passed away Sunday January 30, 2011 in St. Mary's Medical Center. He was born May 17, 1928 in Las Vegas, New Mexico, son of the late David and Monica Vigil Barela. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Frances Madrid and infant son David Barela. Daniel served in the Air Force for six years , and retired from Liquid Carbonic in Los Angeles. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Janet Spurlock Barela; four children Barbara Desimone, Beatriz Barela, Bertha Mitchell, and Karla VanDerHam; five grandchildren Andrea Johnston, Dennis Mitchell, Josh VanDerHam, Joe Desimone, and Danielle Desimone; three brothers Sam, Nick, and Roy Barela; one sister Ruby Sharp; three loving great grandchildren; many loving nieces and nephews; and five brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Joan (Roger) Miller, Richard (Karen) Spurlock, Fred (Glenda) Spurlock, Karen (Larry) King, and David (Shirley) Spurlock; and will be missed by many loving and caring friends. Graveside service will be conducted 4:00 p.m. Wednesday February 2, 2011 at Miller Memorial Gardens Miller, Ohio by Pastor Gordon Rutherford. Visitation will be held from 2 to 3:45 p.m. Wednesday February 2, 2011 at Hall Funeral Home Proctorville, Ohio. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/hall.

I am Frances' granddaughter Sarah (Madrid) Flores. (Carla's Daughter) I was able to meet Uncle Dan when my grandmother was sick and he was always very nice and funny! I hope you recieve this message. I am very sorry for your loss and may God be with you.

My sincerest condolences to my Tio Dan's family for their loss. Tio Dan was the best! Still remember those trips to Lynwood, CA. Those were great times!!! I will never forget his handshake with the pressure he would put with his thumb. (ha) Janet, Barbara, Beatriz, and Bertha.....may God Bless all of you and be with you through this difficult time.

Grandpa,
