Pamela Jean Dodd Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1952 - 2011

Pamela Jean Dodd Pamela J. Dodd of Greenville went home to heaven on April 12, 2011. She was born July 24, 1952 in Greenville, the daughter of Elinor Jean Hubbs and the late Dale Hubbs.

Pamela attended Baldwin Heights Elementary and was a 1970 graduate of Greenville High School, where she was proud to be a majorette. She attended Ferris State University and was a member of the marching band. She then transferred to Central Michigan University where she completed a B.S. in Early Childhood Development. She taught third grade for one year in Litchfield, MI, first grade for two years in Hudson, MI. She is a past president of the Southside Child Study Club. After raising her kids, she returned to teaching at Baldwin Heights where she taught reading, first, and second grades for 18 years.

On June 17, 1972 she married her high school sweetheart, Douglas Dodd. Pam was a lifelong learner as well as a teacher. She loved to teach children to read, travel to Disney World and other family vacations, play the piano, listen to the waves of Mackinaw, and walk the beach, any beach. Most of all, she loved her husband, children and grandchildren, her daughters-in-law, and her parents.

She will be missed by her loving husband of 37 years, her mother, her two sons Kevin Dodd of Kalamazoo (and partner Cherie Seitz) and Ryan Dodd of Aurora, IL (and wife Ashley and children Alece, R.J., and London), her dog Jack, and her sister Judy Swartz and her family. Also surviving are Doug's parents Bob and Phyllis and his brothers, Dean and Maureen, David, Dennis, and their families. We will remember her generous spirit and unbelievable capacity to love.

A celebration of her life will be held 1:00pm Saturday, April 16 at Hurst Funeral Home in Greenville, officiated by Rev. Dr. Jerrold T. Jones.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Pam's honor either to the family or to the Pamela J. Dodd Scholarship Fund at Greenville High School.

Pam Rest in Peace! I will cherish my memories of the great times spent together! Only because of Pam and her Mom and Dad I was included in their summer vacations. Every year we would travel up North and spend time at the Riveria Hotel looking out at the Mackinac Bridge. I would have never gotten out of Greenville and had those experiences and fun without her! Kudos to Doug, Jean and wonderful sons. It was a riot to spend New Years Eve at Disney a few years ago with both of our families. So happy we both made it to the reunion!

Someone mentioned Pam's smile, her 'twinkling eyes' and how her whole presence could light a room; this is how I remember her also. She touched many lives in the Greenville area and we all lost a precious lady. Our prayers are with her family and friends in the days to come and pray they may find comfort with each other and the assurance we have in the future.

When I think of Pam the word "love" comes to mind. She loved so much of life-her family, her students, her friends. And she loved with a joy that was contagious. Her smile and laugh brightened the days of those around her. She was a kind and loving soul who enriched my life during the decades that we shared in Greenville. Blessings and prayers to the whole family.
